Broad categories of words to eliminate... I am always struggling with the tradeoff of balancing the dictionary: too many words and games become too large to be fun; too few and I get annoyed at 'such obvious' words missing... Currently close to optimal, I think. But I keep thinking of removing entire categories such as: - each word that ends in -MAN has a potential -WOMAN and -PERSON version; - birds - there are so darn many! - plants -- likewise. So many obscure grasses...And I found...

I was thinking about how many unique games can be had in spellbinding. I've been out of comp sci theory for quite a while but I came up with: 26*6^20 but I'd love someone better at this than me to correct it. 26 center letters * 20 (19?) remaining letters swapped out for each letter on the circle (6). I feel like factorials are involved but maybe not.

Should baal be removed? Merriam Webster doesn't have it capitalized but has a note saying it is often capitalized. I could go either way.

A suggestion: don't worry about a 'perfect game' or competing too much. Enjoy the challenge. I've tried my best to make the game more interesting by showing top word counts (it also acts as a clue to the puzzle dimensions), but not too competitive (by showing word counts and not scores). Just because someone has a high word count does not mean they are ahead of you - longer words or a pangram can make your score way higher.

I broke the game changeover script... Luckily the game was not affected, just the wordlog. I was never much of a bash script person. Hopefully it's good now, but we'll see tomorrow when cron runs the script.

Broken link to submit a Spellbinding answer? The URL is: [gemini link] Removing one of the "cgi" from the end seems to fix it, and I am prompted to submit an entry. Once I submit an entry though, nothing changes on the submission page once it reloads... That might be a separate issue.
