I found a lot of the information online about the DeAgostini subscription Moominhouse model kind of lacking, so I thought I'd throw up a blog documenting my build, how the subscription works, things you may want to prepare in advance, etc. Below are pages for the monthly packages, or keep scrolling for an explanation of the subscription model.
Most of the tools you need come with the model kits, but below are some items you will need to provide yourself, as well as a few recommendations from me. I largely opted to use things I already had in the house, so if you're buying things like paints or tools you may find something else that works better. I will add to this list as I proceed through the kits. I will also note that in my "tools included" section, I will include items from the first kit that you are expected to still have (such as the sandpaper or wood glue), so if these items are damaged or used up, you will need to replace them yourself. They are listed more in the sense of "these were provided to you at some point" than "these are included in each box".

DeAgostini is a company that makes scale model kits. Many years ago I saw an auction for a subscription based Moominhouse kit from Japan and thought it looked really cool. This kit seems to have existed in many countries for a while, but only as of recently it is now available in the US. As a subscription based kit, you receive a box every month with bits of a huge model of the Moominhouse, with figures of the characters and such. There are 120 parts total, but luckily you do not receive only one part a month (or this would be an extremely long build).
When first investigating this subscription kit, I had a hard time figuring out the shipping schedule and the costs. So below is a general overview:
Package 1 comes with the first two Volumes. These are fairly small, but the lower price ($1 for 1 and $7 for 2) is likely meant to entice people to subscribe.
Package 2, which comes the following month, has volumes 3 and 4, both at $13.99 which is the standard price. So with shipping it means being charged $32.78 the second month.
Packages 3 to 11 are 4 issues per box, same price per issue, but a total of $65.56 with shipping since you are getting 4 a month.
Packages 12 to 27 increase to 5 a month, which is $81.95 a month with shipping. So towards the end, the kits will become pricy, but you will progress rapidly on the kit.
27 packages at this scale makes for all 120 issues, so this puts the total project time at 2 years and 3 months. It'll be a long term thing, but at least it won't take a decade at this pace. You can also opt for an upgrade that adds a one dollar to the cost of each volume that will give you bonus items every month--bonus characters, stickers, etc. I have opted for this myself.
Along with the model kit parts, you get magazines with each volume. These magazines include the build instructions, but also have Moomin stories, facts, just sort of general fun fluff. However, if you have seen the Japanese kits that came in book-shaped boxes, the US kit parts come in a plain shipping box. Great if you're me and don't want to feel bad about throwing the box away, but if you wanted a massive bookshelf of the Japanese-style boxes you won't be getting that.
