2022/0902/1245 — Psittaciformes

Out for a walk during my lunch break, grey skies and wet roads, recent rain has dropped the temperature and everything looks dull. As well as the ubiquitous squawking of the Noisy miners[1] inall the trees and bushes there's a flash of colour and noise from the parrots; first the Rainbow lorikeets[2] up high in the gum trees, then unexpectedly, a single Eastern rosella[3] flew out of a garden and across the road, pursued by some bullying miners. A brisk walk around the block and on the way back a galah[4] was digging frantically in someone's lawn, struggling to pull out a juicy piece of grass roots. It flew off as I got about a metre away, only to land on the other side of the road next to its mate, dropped the roots and shook them a few times to get the dirt off, then carefully picked it up one foot to eat
