Third time's a charm! I nearly avoided the route altogether, I'm really not fond of being swooped, especially by a bird I know to hit rather than just warn. Today I decided to take a slightly different path — the old bike-path — and go around the problem set of trees to the south, where I hoped I'd be far enough away to escape avian attack. No such luck, with a loud shrieking and at last, a positive ID, out of the trees came not one but two Grey butcherbirds[1] to swoop around my helmet like demented feathered wasps. So my apologies to the magpies[2], unjustly accused on this occasion
