thank you for doing so much to further gempub software! I too believe it is a great format for most kinds of books. The worst part of the process is manually transcribing the raw text document paragraph for paragraph. hopefully some auto conversion tools will be even further refined in the future.

Cool! Good to see other folks supporting the gempub format :-D

@Sm0key What conversion tools would you like to see? md and epub to gempub both have some auto-tooling... Personally, I feel like the ability to write them by hand is their great benefit over epub, which is cumbersome to write by hand. But I'd be happy to whip up some stuff, if there is something specific you think would be helpful.

@sloum so far my raw text has come from internet archive and their format for conversion 1) splits up paragraphs into many new lines which really sucks to remove the lines and get all sentences on one line per paragraph, 2) doesn't preserve paragraph structure at all so you have to constantly reference an epub/pdf version to make sure they are correct), 3) does not handle scientific notation or mathematical equations well at all, which honestly is probably a bitch of an issue in general so I don't blame them for this one too much) and 4, sometimes makes terrible spelling mistake

If you have any suggestions for a better way I might be able to go about this please hit me with that sweet advice!

@sm0key Have you looked at the toolkit provided by standardebooks.org? I have produced a number of epubs for them. They use gutenberg as source and can just import nicely and have clean processes/scripts to get everything to play nice -- for epub. So, it may be easiest to start there (by converting to epub) and then convert to gempub until gempub specific tools are created. Their toolkit (available on their github) would be a great starting point for the kinds of things that would be nice to have for a similar gempub toolkit, I think.

gempubify can now also create gempub archives by reading a (yaml) project file. From the project file you can write individual .gmi files and also define gemini capsules that you want to scrape and it will be added to the gempub and linked in the index.
