[@streetlite] (https://www.librepunk.club/@streetlite) there technically /was/ one, a caretaker governement, but the advantage it had, is that it could focus mostly on technical issues rather than being bothered with the usual political back and forth bs to gain votes.

[@OffTheHook] (https://hackers.town/@OffTheHook) [@thegibson] (https://hackers.town/@thegibson) Hope you all don't mind I updated my latest gopher phlog post with a link to the show's audio, as it was extremely relevant to the subject matter.

“I shall feast on your misfortune, I shall remember all your lies.

Truth has never been of essence as you devised your fallacies.

As you deteriorate I shall create my kingdom.

As you sink into waves of darkness I shall find my brightest light

As you perish, I shall live.”

( ... funny how triptykon lyrics can sum up my feelings about the tech landscape :P )

[@furysama] (https://mastodon.straylight.engineering/@furysama) [@makdaam] (https://chaos.social/@makdaam) That's more of an unfortunate side effect, and not the intent. But one could exclude google cloud by exluding these:

AS16550, AS139070, AS139190, AS396982

Unfortunately, I think it's highly likely that google uses it's own cloud and associated ip ranges for gathering/spidering data for ai datasets , so I'm going to keep them blocked on my instance. It's probably better to not give them money anyway,...

Here is a slightly more complete list of ASNs:

PeeringDB has a search engine where you can search for a company name and get AN numbers ( [https://www.peeringdb.com] (https://www.peeringdb.com) ) - for Google I did /not/ include google fiber or euNetworks since that might affect end-users.

Obviously doing this will also prevent google, yandex, etc,... from indexing websites on your server, and anything on your server which depends on pulling data from anything hosted on cloud services hosted by any of these companies will break. I'm OK with that, but you might not be on your server.

[@furysama] (https://mastodon.straylight.engineering/@furysama) It blocks direct requests from those companies to your server, but not posts that were relayed through another server, so you should still defederate with normal domain blocks as well.

Also also,... I went ahead and straight up blocked Meta, Google, Amazon, Yandex, and Microsoft ASN's at the firewall level of my server hosting the jails for gopher, mastodon, irc, etc,...

AS32934

AS15169

AS13238

AS8075

AS16509

In case any one else feels like doing the same.

If you're running any of the bsd's you can use pf-badhost to do this. Just edit the script to drop in the ASNs) Stick it in cron to keep the block list updated. ( [https://www.geoghegan.ca/pfbadhost.html] (https://www.geoghegan.ca/pfbadhost.html) )

Also.... I should probably change the domain at some point and rename it to fedi.linkerror.com or something .. ugh :( but it's a bit late for that... I'll probably do that if/when I eventually get tired of hacking the horrible mastodon server software and move on to something else/simpler... but right now I can't be bothered... some day ... some day... DOMINION

mastodon.linkerror.com has now defederated all the meta domains listed in [https://gitea.whitespashe.uk/Whitespashe/MetaDomains/src/branch/main/domains.txt] (https://gitea.whitespashe.uk/Whitespashe/MetaDomains/src/branch/main/domains.txt)

I haven't been posting much here or even on gopher, or most of the public internet, because it's all getting swallowed by bots to be fed into some greedy capitalist's training data set. If Veilid fixes this, it can't come soon enough,...

Bedankt!!
