This month, I have been working steadily and surely on my novel, and it's going really well! I feel like I'm reaping the benefits of sustained effort over time, the joy and pleasure you only get as you grow older. I am almost done with my detailed synopsis (6,681 words in), and getting ready to start drafting. Yowza!
Sarah continues to be very helpful. I changed my ending to something that better fit my theme at her advice, and though it was kind of hard to stomach initially, it's 100% the right decision.
I started the month off with a trip to Dallas for my cousin Troy's wedding! It was pretty fun. The wedding was at a science museum, and the guests got the run of the lot. My sister, Sarah, and I basically got very drunk on amaretto sours and wandered through the different exhibits. I like Dallas, there are some really cool restaurants and places to go. It was nice being a guest at a wedding instead of a bridesmaid. When you're a guest, you just show up! It's amazing.
Other than the wedding, Sarah came to visit for Father's Day. We didn't do too much, but it was nice to see her. Abby got a kitten, and he is the sweetest creature in the entire universe. We were really nervous about whether he was going to live, because he was quite malnourished and had an infection, but he's growing more and more each day and it's amazing to see! I would attach a picture, but I don't know how to do that in Gemini yet!
Work is alright. I have three jobs now! Main job, dogsitting, and a new consulting project I'm (potentially) taking on. I feel completely like a n00b at freelance stuff. But it's going to be a lot of money, so I'm hyped for that. If I can pay off my impending trip to Mexico in one fell swoop, it will be so worth it.
I killed it at my main job last week, which is good because I felt like I was in the dog house for a bit (that's probably just my anxiety speaking). I mentioned this in my tinylog, but I really am getting a lot out of Cal Newport's stuff about having seasonal intentions when it comes to what you're focusing on. Last week was work, and it really paid off.
