today was my first time using a proper cupping form from the SCAA, i've always just prepped the coffee for cupping and tasted and written down rudimentary notes and opinions. it was interesting trying to follow the form tasting for each category and trying to score, it's not as easy as i thought. my scores trended low and i didn't even know what all the categories meant, like aroma has ratings for "dry" and "break", or "clean cup."
the Kenya was noticeably under-roasted and tasted vegatal and grassy, while at the same time a bit bitter. it's tolerable in a french press but i'm not enjoying drinking it. the colombia on the other hand is complex, sweet, just the right acidity, and lots of fruity funk as expected from a honey process coffee. this coffee will go quickly, especially when the alternative is pretty bad.
