I think the possibility of people in geminispace having heard the story of John Titor is a bit higher than in the general popoulus, but let me just give you a small introduction:
In 2001 someone calling himself John Titor started posting on a forum dedicated to paranormal / UFO and other mystery stuff, claiming to be a time traveller trom the year 2036. Over the next couple of weeks he gave some insight into future events and the technology of his time machine, his prediction included a civil war in the USA, a global pandemic and a (limited) nuclear exchange between the US and Russia. He had also a nice Catch 22 if some or all of his predictions would not come true: Due to him coming from another 'worldline' and his mere presence at this time events may unfold differently for us.
If you want to dive into this rabbit hole, Wikipedia is a good place to start.
A few days ago after consuming to much news about the war in the Ukraine, consuming a bit to much whiskey, and consuming a bit to much internet in general sometime in a sleepless night some thoughts began to manifest in my brain.
Lets just start up your suspension of disbelief and pretend just for the rest of this text he told the truth and was really a time traveller.
He told in his posts about a civil war in the US, not something like the civil war in the 19th century, but more like "a Waco type event every month", he himself he told, was part of some sort of militia himself.
So, there is currently no civil war going on in the US, right? Now... ask some alt-right, QAnon and Trump-follower lunatic and you would get an drastical different answer than you might think. What, if the whole civil war thing was just some conspiracy theory lunaticsin his timeline running wild... what struck me especially in this context was that he insisted, that the russians nuking the US where not HIS enemies, but rather the enemies of the state he was also fighting. A curious little detail, especially concerning the Trump and alt-right view on Putin and russia. Even when he writes about the cause of the civil war being about "rights and control" it sounds very much like the stuff you can hear from the Trump camp. So, if we look at his story from the perspective of an domestic terrorist it makes a lot more sense.
Another point often cited when debunking his story was, that BSE was never a big thing... which is right, for the USA, in Europe Mad Cow Desease WAS a big thing with an really aggressiv response from most governments resulting in mass culling of whole stocks of cows.
At the time when he posted his story the thought about a nuclear exchange between Russia and the USA could merely attributed as an look back at an 80s movie plot, the russians where pretty much on good terms with the west at that time. Now, in the light of the current unfolding events... lets just say i have a really bad feeling about this...
