I am tired of WordPress blog which I used on and off for 7 years or so. Never liked the interface. But some good photography blogs kept me there.
I am tired of my Tumblr (it is not blogging) that I have been using on and of for 7 years or so. What kept me there ? So easy to share my photos and some other photographers . It is a dump.
Even more tired I am of my account on Instagram, that I have used for same amount of years. Reason why I was on? Despite I didn't like the idea to share photography in small size I got used to it. Since all other photographers started to use it, so me too. Go with herd. And of course after years of usage everyone is dopamine addict.
I made a website on Jimdo years ago. I wanted to make my presentation look minimal and professional. To show my best of photos. Projects. Exhibits. Used some sleek designed templates and tweaked it until I was happy. Provided my real name and played that game "artist with website". Artis with big ego.
I am tired of Flickr, where I shared photos for 10 years. Until they sold platform and made free accounts limited. Almost everyone left for Instagram and Facebook anyway.
Now I am creating text based web on Neocities. Simple. Using only LibreOffice to edit web. Refreshing.
Hm, but questions is who to show my photos if I want to avoid social media?
Even with a text-first protocol like Gemini or a text-only website, you can still embed links to images in your pages if you want to share them directly. If you want a more intuitive image browsing experience though, you might consider running a MediaGoblin server.
