phile #4 - IIU 1990 Hacking on the compuserve information service typed by darkness Ever wonder what the hell compuserve is? Ever wonder how to get into it? Ever wonder why the russians brought back john denver from outer space? Any answered yes, this phile is just for you. Except for the third question. If you answered yes to that, join the crowd. Compuserve is an information service based out of columbus ohio, with node locations all over the us. Dialup ports for compuserve are located locally in every major and minor metropolitan city in the continental us, plus some in canada. Compuserve is also accessable through tymnet and telenet, giving it international access. Planned for the future are local dialup ports in certain sections of europe. Compuserve offers online shopping, airline reservations, more interest groups than a cray 2 can count, online games, stock reports, magazine reprints, company sigs, etc. In other words, it's real fucking big. Huge. Gargantuous. It's great. What to get ----------- Must have: Compuserve introductory subscription CC Loop (fortress phone, if not a loop) nice to have: Beige box + nearby gte access Virgin CC Mailing address Explanations.... Compuserve subscriptions can be found in many places. One of the easiest is with your friends. whether they hack or not. just aboutall modems these days come with these cute little sign-ups, and most peopledo not use them. some save them for the fuck of it. walla. other (harderstuff) methods are five-finger discount. you can five-finger discountone out of waldenbooks, radio shack, and computer stores. but... you haveto go through two or three seals to get to the damn book. dangerous. theloop/fortress phone is for call-back verification. find your cc throughregular methods.(*** note here... if you positively cannot find the above or cannot wait to start hacking on cis, check out the compuserve hacking file by shadow lord, esq. deals with going through ziff accounts. i personally will not go that route due to the fact that so many hackers do use them. the only info to remember for the phile is that cis does call-back verify on the voice phone now, so include that in your plans ***) the nice things to have.... the beige box is that in case yer really paranoid about being traced, ya can box onto somebody elses line. preferably, the neighbors whose fuckings kids wake you up at three oclock in thegoddamned afternoon. virgin cc is nice because then you don't have toworry about the cc turning up invalid and killing the account. the mailingaddress is so you can get your second pw. more later. how to logon ------------ first off, you have to dial compuserve up. you can look at the end of the booklet and find a local access number, or find out how to access it through tymenet or telenet. (note: tymnet and telenet will provide an extra layer of protection, but they are horribly slow. text will go normally for 30 or 40 characters, then stop, then start. cuts your speed by 2/3, and is hell on downloads. line noise too. its a compromise. what's important to ya?) if you dialed the compuserve port, hit cntrl-c after connecting. the next part is tedious. have all your info ready to type in immediately. first, type in the signup info on the inside of the signup kit. then, go on and enter name, address, cc #, etc. also,??ick the business acct when its presented to you. gives you more access. type it allllll in. remember to feed them the loop and mailing address. you don't neccessarily have to type in correct name and such, but it may make the account last longer. how compuserve validates ------------------------ compuserve validates new accounts by two methods. first, the easier one. you only have limited access to your account because the first password given to you during the signup to temporary. compuserve then mails the second one out to the address you gave 'em. after a week or two, compuserve kills whatever password is in there, and requires the second mailed password for access. the second way is rather new. voice validation. how to get around them ---------------------- first off, ask yourself. do i want a limited account i cant do shit with? if no, you have to find an address you can send the password to. for help finding an address, get a text phile on carding. the way around the second way is a loop. leave feedback telling them that you're quite busy with business matters and such, or that yttle fucks who tried. Right after they got through working on them, they left the holes open so it was wasy to get in and out of, but now the put bars on them and it is harder to get into.. -me Numb : 38/40 Subj : Black Powder From : max headroom (#99) Date : 08/06/90 02:13:40 PM I got some black powder(the fine grain stuff) and wanted to make a few fire works for the fourth of july(ones that would out do m-60 if not dynamite..What i did was got a few cardboard cylindars about 3-4 inches long each and cut some circular card spacers a little larger than the diameter of the cylindar. I would put a double layer on the bottom and glue it with elmers glue.I then would put some say dust(for extra packing and spacing) and put some in there and then would push another card board spacer and pack and glue it. Be sure that you let the glue dry in between adding spacers..I would continue this process until i was ready to add the black powder..For these I added about a thimble full of black powder. The I punched a hole in the spacer(with a hole puncher) and glued it down on top of the black powder(be sure and not to get the black powder wet with glue). And now for the fuse.I didn't want to have an external fuse, so i started thinking of a way for an internal one. What i came up with is: Saw dust and match heads. What i did was put a layer of matchheads on top of the spacer that was laying on top of the blackpowder. Be sure that a match head is directly on top of the hole you punched. Then add a little say dust and a few match heads.Be sure and not add too much sawdust and not enough match heads because it will stop burning and will never reach the bottom. But on the other hand, do add to many match heads and not enough saw dust, because it will burn ttle fucks who tried. (c) 1990 IIU publications - all rights shat upon
