blogging is an interesting and somewhat lost art, if you exclude the tragedy that is tumblr.com
a means for someone to just dump some random longform thoughts out into the world, and where people could (often) respond back and discuss.
you could argue that it says something about a bias against longform content in the modern internet, but i don't think that's fully true.
if that were so, there would be no 2 hour video essays on youtube with millions of views, no enormous twitlongers about fake drama, and no pretentious>
i think, more accurately, it says something about how impersonal things have become.
in most of this situations, nobody's really acknowledged fully as the individual they are.
the content is about things, media, events, the like, more than a person and their views.
what else is a blog, really, than a way for someone to discuss their individual thoughts in depth?
its a way for a longform nuanced thought and discussion on something, albiet one sided.
to go on something of a tangent, theres also an argument to be made that this is the same thing that killed forums.
longform discussion between established members of a community? nope! let's all join lightning fast discord servers where you never have a moment to n>
this isn't to discredit the utility of discord, or any other modern (or old!) chat clients, but more that public discussion has generally taken a turn>
