This feels like a week of firsts. I've barely been out of the house the last few years, except to run errands and walk the dogs. Thursday I met a poet who was in town for a few days; last night I met friends at an all-you-can-eat Korean BBQ/sushi restaurant.
Two writers in one week: one of my friends' girlfriends is technically another Twitter mutual of mine. She writes fiction and works for one of the local lit mags, and we've sort of known/known-of each other for a while, though always electronically. She may have read some of my submissions over the last few years. Oof, there's a thought.
Regardless, it was good. We ate a ton of food, the bill coming out to over $50/person. Lamb, beef, squid, mushrooms, and peppers for the grill; sashimi (tuna, scallops, salmon, octopus); tempura-battered shrimp and mushrooms; wings and boneless-style wings and lots of sushi. I was basically there for the last of these, and ate more than my fill. By the time we settled up and left, I could feel it. I spent most of the evening on the couch, barely able to move.
But it was really nice. To see people, to get out. Some of the group are people I work with; due to the happy continuation of remote work, there's one I haven't seen since we worked together at my last place, when he was a co-op student on my larger team. He's grown his hair out, though not as long as me, and has an earring. No longer looks like a kid. Mid-twenties, now.
I hate to think how I look. But more of this, please.
