Whew! It’s been quite a while since I last checked in on my capsule and the gemini space in general. The last seven months have been really stressful, scary and uncertain due to a number of family medical crises. But things are stable for now and we have a four-day weekend here in the UK for the Queen’s Jubilee. I saw about a dozen helicopters in formation flying over our area, quite low, this afternoon.
I had a day off on Wednesday and spent the afternoon at a local park. It was one of those warm, sunny days with just the right amount of breeze that we wish for in spring but that rarely actually happen – I felt lucky to be able to enjoy it outside. I didn’t realise that the park had a maze so, of course, when we found it, we had to try it. I’ve never been in a maze before so it was really fun. They can’t help exuding that air of magic from storybooks and legends, can they?
I finished playing Eliza a couple of days ago and I’m looking forward to running through the game again to see which other paths I can take. I don’t usually like visual novels but this one really impressed me – the art and design were stunning, and the interactive elements had purpose within the game (rather than just a means to click forwards to the next piece of text).
Today is a public holiday so I was able to enjoy a three-day weekend. I finally got the crevice tool out on my vacuum cleaner and got rid of all the dusty skirting boards and cobwebs lurking in the corners of the ceiling. I watched a Canadian horror film last night called Slaxx, which is about a pair of haunted jeans (and supply chains in the fast fashion industry). It was actually pretty good – the SFX were clever, funny, and not without some pathos.
Updated my tilde.club page since I realised I haven't done much with it. COVID-19 vaccinations here in the UK opened up for people in my age group but I've been having a hard time booking appointments online. Maybe I will be contacted by my health centre. I walked to the local deli place again and got a custard doughnut.
I live in a flat and one of my little pastimes is watching the to and fro of life on the streets below, seeing who’s walking their dog or coming home from school. There’s a man I sometimes see who always wears a very colourful blazer and hat. The jacket has a polka dot or flower pattern – I can’t really see from a distance but it cheers me up. Well, I finally passed him at street-level the other day and the blazer is actually covered in a Pac-Man pattern! Respect!
I went to my local town centre yesterday to look around and get some food. It was bustling on the streets and I made a quick visit to a couple of comics shops. My favourite store had moved into much bigger premises, which was nice to see. I wonder when trips like this will stop feeling like a calculated risk?

I discovered that my public library offers a really huge range of digital comics and graphic novels! I used to read quite a lot of comics but fell out of the habit a few years ago. This will be a great chance to check out some new titles and catch up with stuff I missed.

The weather has been good these past few days, with bright sunshine and clear skies. Even though I’m not going outside, it’s refreshing to see the sunlight coming in and have all my windows open.

It was a sunny day so I walked to the big supermarket to use the photo booth. My passport expires next month and even though I don’t intend on travelling any time soon, I feel nervous without a valid passport. Who knows when I might need to flee the country?

I’ve been bouncing around exploring the geminispace, reading people’s posts and getting ideas about the kind of stuff I can share on my own capsule. Mostly, for me, this is a freeing space where I can write without thinking about an audience, where I can amuse myself.

I have a shortcut on my phone that speaks the weather each morning when I turn off my alarm clock and today I really got right out of bed because it said it was snowing! I peeked under the curtains and it was snowing quite heavily outside. By contrast, the afternoon was pretty sunny and springlike. I hope we get warmer, brighter days soon.

I’m having croissants, fresh from the oven, for breakfast. If you can get frozen ready-to-bake pastries, I really recommend them. I used to grab a croissant, pain au chocolat or pain aux raisin on my way to the office quite regularly back in the commuting days but now pastries are reserved as a Sunday treat.

Started reading The Aosawa Murders by Riku Onda yesterday evening. It feels like it's going to be a creepy, slow-burn kind of story. I haven't been very motivated to read this past year so I'm glad to get back into some fiction, and also support public libraries.

Took advantage of the sunny weather to walk to a new deli that has opened nearby. It's the first trip I've taken to a shop in quite a few months and, while it was nice to browse all the fancy goods, it did feel kind of awkward and weird to be in an enclosed space with strangers. It does me good to get out though. Next time I'll get one of their ice cream sandwiches.

Wrote up my thoughts on LFF 2020 for the capsule. Surprised I was able to remember what I watched back in October last year! I'm trying out Bear app for my writing and notes – I like it so far. It's been a quiet afternoon with me sat at one end of the kitchen table typing away and my partner sitting at the other end working on his music.

It's the Easter holidays so we effectively have a four-day weekend. I slept until 11:30am. Started learning how to use Vim, just out of curiosity – it's kind of fun but I don't really need to use it for anything! The evening I spent watching Eurovision videos.

Hi! I challenged myself to write a script that would create a miniature gemlog and I am really happy that it works. I don't have a background in computer science and am not hugely familiar with shell commands so I'm giving myself a pat on the back.
