howling, low and low, rouses me
from that novel on its thousandth page
drifting voice above the constant wind
keeping companionship to windchimes
minor tune no one brought within
to an old dog by the bedroom door
informing me in great dubiousity
visitors have plumbed winter ��s glow
gentle coyote on his hill reaping melancholy
sewing sorrows for his still ��s evaporation
who drinks to remember soft duck girls
all downy come spring ��s whispered graces
our bones trundling downstairs sniffing
change a comin �� and more o �� the snow
keeping chatter-time in irregular paces
collar on for a spot of business on the run
speaking friendly business-like
if you be boon and guest companion
welcome for I ��ve a meal and story
happy to share and tarry though solstice
in this long year still blows a merry distance
come warm your stones where normally fire
instead harbors in-floor heating and a cuppa
trade of gifts it you will insofar as neither
to the other ill nor malefaction
and if him upon his hill doth beacon
by all means a merry prank and reckon
it ��ll be a good long while in this blow
