that march, all we knew was slow pans
mostly bodies, some injured survivors
superhero music playing way off in the distance
silence when the shelling finally faltered
logistics rather than armistice
triage looking like walking the long roads
high and low both insecure, unsure of welcome
saying to the folks back behind the surge
I dunno, I dunno, too many soldiers
can ��t say I saw yours by the weedy side
listening to medevac rolling in
new thunder starting in rotors and turbines
twenty thousand meters behind us
saying, I dunno, I dunno, to many laters
may you find yours not invalidated
I ��ve got this blindness
back where someone said here be enemy
but you ��ve come into my howe uninvited
not even speaking, taken offered tea
closed fist on porcelain
so I ��ll walk you to that salt-burned ocean
if you show I must, if you show I must
dip you in abyss unknowing, place black tea
where your guesting words should have been
until I see again
