there ��s a dozen first things when you get the coat
but the first-first is checking for names, badges, service
making sure you don ��t have some grandfather ��s prize
some unit ��s honor of place you ��d displace
putting that thing on
ain ��t nothing wrong with trolling the surplus
plenty of it well-made, hard-wearing goodness
but banging through thrift stores, some folks don ��t know
and if it ��s got a name, always worth checking
before pulling those identifications respectfully clean
that some kid ��s not looking for their grandmother ��s life
all alone and wondering
