Shared Hunger

upon the cabinetry where the carpet-finds are stored
a small yellow spider descended its oatmeal container
having arrived via misplaced hunger in the wee hours
no flies, no milk, both spider and I unsatisfied
eying each other for potential friendship
knickknacks all around reflecting in ceramic glaze
our discontent, our eventual lament to carpet
upon which is found so many things most beautiful
not a one of which are food
