three stops down the line, city ��s burning again
right about this time every year, some fear
some desperate indignation, some long dark coming
frustration ��s release in chairs, broken down for kindling
old languages valued only for pages, for pyre
flicker and betray, bells ringing
some center for learning invaded, claimed outmoded
stains from ignorance saying, warmth this second
this very fleeting reckoning, makes that intellectual bower
powerless slain in reductionism, to ash not even saved for ink
passages filled in ancient labyrinth, monitored by horn
goring all comers, bells ringing
clapper sooted silent now, resonant to neither chorus
nor singing in hush, bells ringing
