Coming Towards Neap

there ��s a presentation that to change, to be other
one must first hate one ��s self, condemn one ��s being
spit upon one ��s collection of graven self-images
without room for the neutral or joyful
where this is what I am becomes, full cheerful flare
this is what I was, where the will-be is greeted
bloody lovely come the morning, open armed
some daft plaster spitting
that one must suffer for art, for revision, for stages
that joy in both has been and now must smother
wrapped in never good enough, vilification
as though suffocation were winning
to which I respond, I was plenty good enough then
and from meat to bone, creation to meanwhile
I ��m plenty good enough now
with all the room that ��s ever been
and you too, you ��re plenty fine
even if you didn ��t like
where you ��d been
