reminded, they pull the slider into power-off position
slow sweet music continuing, chat voice unceasing
close, comfortable, speaking in iambic pentameter
of that hottest of August days when the noise cancellation
finally got out-voted by ear-sweat and �� is that thunder
some arcane rumbling in the distance, not quite words
heat getting to them in that near-biblical leak
a council of translators addressing manual
flopping power off for auto-standby, self-initiation
they brush the black plastic, the ever-familiar cushions
pleased in external deafness, internal symphony
where once the cradle and bells would just green-light
all by themselves, some inner connection conductive
in humidity, plating ionic metal over fragile contacts
mic picking up lament upon lament, old distant hand
reaching in, fiddling compassion up to eleven
sifting DTMF for attention to recharge
midwinter where, ears protected �� sheltered �� awareness resides
pure contraventions attest beatification �� worn �� in concordance
after each charge, quantum convergence �� arrives
they, and they, well stood in their altogether
tetherless
