No Fall Without

said to me, complacent tone, slow eyes
wanted to know if I suffered from ��
but wanted more to know if I suffered
that I needn ��t speak my mind to law
nor spend in comprehension
those dark sweat-browed nights
harnessed to the wheel, broken
by thinking
better to bend, to sway, to parlay
each strand of ideation in stitching
in fetching stance, in litch-dance spinning
but these thousand years dead
have threaded my patience
their blood was fine enough
ground down to quantification
by drinking
shuffling the word in cradle
who suffused their fable, pre-spoken
whose things are these now woven
padded down to clots and aftermath
laver and lever in the leavening
monkey-knotted rise in weave so tight
choice might graven steam, un-leaking
