Dinner For Two
February 17, 2022
I ��ve had to apologize to my muse again
explaining that possession of anyone, muse or otherwise, is creepy
that they ��re their own muse, and maybe they ��d like a turn
sitting in the wee hours with pen and brush, ink and electrons
that we could take turns, our own muses, sharing inspirations
or agreeing up front that our interests are often at variance
how fluffy winged kittens are my happy place, and theirs
seems to roil in rivers of blood, rivers that speak, rivers that yearn
year after year, for just one more tribute �� and I ��m stuck here
behind this fluffy wall of kitten, whose size and impermeability
render nearly all creation secondary to the cutest of cuteness
trying to explain why I ��m laughing and not writing
because every time I try for the phrase �� tribute to the river
in vitae veracity, I end up with silted fingers and tributaries
tangled in a tale how catmother ��s most delightful milk
just happens to run red, and how that story of horror
is but kitten paradise, plentiful and forever freeing
today I have brought my muse chocolate
and they, to me, that rarest of steaks
the latter of which we ��re sharing
somewhat grudgingly
with the kitten
unowned
