Advent
December 4, 2021
with the advent of advent, assisted by modern technology
my partner and I can open our calendars from anywhere
with small digital delights basting our sultry holidays
we can secretly hand each other sweet madness
gladly penning missives, between grocery and uncivil retreat
resting upon our ivory thrones, having agreed no further pictures
kissing wars under mistletoe, digital implementations of Gygax
wandering the old farm ��s lack of halls, tablets overhead
spying with my little eye, something beginning with uh-oh
sound off, messaging in the small hours, in case of sleep
complaining in dented clay on the recurrence of poorly brushed copper
from soap dish to toothbrush holder, cheated again by that bastard
wandering into the downstairs half-bath, meowing through walls
claiming in text, mission success, maniacal laughter assisting
it ��s a regular blizzard in here, someone warn Wendy ��s
augmenting our space with GPS displacement, digital drop-offs
librarians get like this �� home is where the distribution sifts
gladness in the retribution that is learning ever better
taking that knowledge and spilling misfortunate seeds
awards in the kitchen ��s hearth-glow for certified bollard excellence
below, truck-stop menus pasted in delight, hungry-man special circled
across the fields, under snow, old foundations barely seen
but for granite framing, old cuneiform chiseled in
be welcome guest, relax in comfort, when you are fed, the news
my partner and I, once in a while, devices left inside
out under starlight listening to the ice on the river crack, far below
palms to the frame, renewed, stepping through
returning ourselves, loaded down with worlds, memories
grinning sheepishly and muttering, if this ever gets boring
we can always go back to hiding under the bleachers
watching the kids come in for the holidays, farmhouse iterations on belay
hey loves, wash your hands, check the in with the auto-doc, check out the new oven
isn ��t it grand, how ��s that home world treating you
books lining all the walls, cats rambling perimeter
flopping goggles down for cutting onions, listening to that old radio
curling its tongues in serial ambulations, another year almost clear
hearts �� children spilling forth apothecary splendor, each drawer a wonder
tilling that old killing field until all it remembers is radishes, carrots, potatoes
home a fractal library swirl, my partner and I, residents gladdened
murmuring again under that poison branch, how the upstairs bath is heating
how immortals without connection have it easy, and it ��s a typhoon mystery
when was easy ever any fun �� how with enough shampoo, you too can be a unicorn
when we eldritch antiquities, in this time of slumber, found one-another
painstaking carful filters that we might one day know undamaged, others
somehow press so gently upon the worlds, as to leave farms standing
sweetly relished fields, stone upon stone, harvests every one
