Fourth Heat

my potter claims this mug a man
the barest of curves in a glaze of old stone
holds its brother �� and this one woman
the slightest of variations
from stone
to curve
to glaze
tells of the love of throwing
how under their hands
some days pass without
others clearly knowing
their condition
sharing some iota
in ripple, water-kiss
to rack, twice fired
sometimes thrice
tells of washing careful
masking before glazing
stories of silicosis
change running under surface
or sitting comfortable
catching light on the sill
hands me three, mischievous
sitting by the fire, mulled ciders
with rolling year
they ��ll tell you, or they won ��t
cider ��s on the house
from branch
to press
to mug
we are fermentation
throwing ourselves our world
in arms, on watch, under stone
the slightest of variations
