Milestones

tinker down Ammeron way said to me, as I helped repair their wheel
nice thing about milestones is that you get one every mile
long ��s the mules keep pushing along, and the wagon
well, if you ��re good to it, it ��ll usually be good to you
treat it well, and sort your tools for access
but, if you need to fold the road �� they lean back
pop open a drawer behind a hidden slat
row after row of granite flake behind water-quartz
four arm length markers, bowls carved into their tops
darker than the stone they ��re carved in, just a touch ��
here, lend a hand, this land currently short on quarter
got anyone you ��ll leave behind �� good, like so, boxing the road
pick a row, ah, Zenjira, good this time of year, that ��ll do
flake in each bowl, drop of something you care about
no need for blood, a bit of mead will pull you through
then pick up the markers, wash ��em out, lay ��em back, flakes kept track
don ��t miss-label before you can tell by scent, don ��t want to split roads
we ��ll grab you a wagon, some tools along the path
cut four stones in the next quarry we pass �� granite takes it best
and here we are, preventive case, chip four flakes, mile twelve is pretty nice
bit of dirt between ��em
bit of earth beneath
bit of love to cleave them
bit of self-drawn twice
bit of paid the price
