below human swarms, in supermarkets, parking lots
tunnel cuts three quarters of a mile, no subway organization
three parallel tracks crushed together right at the edge of passing safety
entrances blocked only by vague discomfort reflecting steel on steel
forever wheels bruising by in tons and exchanges well documented
nothing so declared as a path by either hungry mouth
brambles and vines reaching further in, but naturally so
concealing spaces one might walk a deer �� or on dearer nights
comfortable souls to set their lights and discount their steps
steady disarrangement gathering kirtles and skirts
conjoined traces where old root and iron branch
weave bends towards sentry public house
back door of back doors greets fleeting fingers
coal bin long to dust beside wine skins and travel pouches
wood oiled, beeswax drifting on woodsmoke
twelve yards below the ground, and seven hundred
up a hillside overlooking somewhere else ��s moraine
water-head of trade river, four stone piers, a still glacial lake
where stories of kingdoms beyond, some open, some guarded
ply middle lands, of sweet-herbed paths and back passages
speak trades over ale and other �� mostly other, no matter your entry
beware to taste unknowing �� rare offerings
porters and loadmasters of a thousand races
stepping in for small blood or small beer and the ever-present fire
raw fish and thin cut onions, copper-laced quartz and silver filings
entrants sniffed once, twice by the publican, passed devices
parsing availabilities, cold grotto or warm linen for choice
trades for one comer ��s trivial things, vital to another
songs for symbiotes, a painting for a palm-full of witless
dream-scented leaves that fade useless to platinum
so few travelers for so very many homes, all together
then out the back at leisure, bypass again the trains
to visit the more-wild wonder, renewed, in world one ��s own
