in the other life I did not dehydrate, no swelling in the joints
but also no pleasure of saliva on the tongue, everything conserved
where the greatest sin of insult was to spit at the feet of an enemy
giving water to stone, and leaving them to the wind, saving nothing
mine own leather soul, skun towards dawn abundant, locked riveting cold
after, driven aside as by equator line, snapping upward one degree
back, twice through my path, sundering identity
here, shrinking in humidity, bones compressed unexpected
drawn twice to water, once for luxury confused
once for aspirant pneumonia, a creature unable to wring itself out
laying down, equator line cracks, particulate insinuation
all saturation, all dry, maximum differentiation
both other life
