Self-Harvest

this grizzling night, rain packed comfortably into fog
makes for new-moon walks by knowing feel
close trees and path dip, trickling atmospheric changes
defining nearness when walkabout
shades of almost-here the eyes don ��t prick
oil canvas over fleece ��s lanolin mixed friendly
twining warp and weft with tomatoes �� wet
skipping trail where squash has rioted
greeting lichen ��s stone-wall grit
having a still sort of comfy sit, October opening up
deer chuffing downhill where twenty years past
sixty-year grown got selective picked
now all birch and bramble
wandering other-homewards, face chill, meat cozy-warm
weird modern gas-hearth and beef-noodle waiting
but first-home was waking woods, full of these places
where one can tuck the waterproof and rest
reconnecting
