yes, darling, I dearly love the sling
reaching out to touch dinner on the wing is adorable
and how I became this well-fed thing in comfortable altogether
but truly, my heart is with the hammer, twelve iron pounds wrapped
at twelve feet of leather twice, an indelicate singing
or silent twist of pleasure brought to table
there is no better knowing than that, as you wind the hammer
the hammer winds you, and you keep it company
knowing either it loves you back, or you let it go
