sometimes it ��s the remains of a baby tooth
mildly irritating and persistent, tucked in under the gum
a chunk of self one would rather not, but what can one do
when coming out of the john, and doing the usual tongue touch
of the space below the gums where this fingertip of old self lives
and it ��s gone �� not punched out, no injury
no space for it to have ever been
gone-gone, gone
surrounding teeth comfortable instead of compressed
and one leans back into that comfort, load off the rest
muscles relaxing into have-been relaxed
stress bleeding off face, lines just a touch erased
gone-gone, gone
where the joke is timeline skipping, sheaf-dipping
that the animals don ��t get surface parasites
and the nights aren ��t so long
gone-gone, all along
