it turned its head, its little stone head, and said
a joke, dear creature, tell me
that I might on the laughter choke, and learn of choking, breathing
that in receiving asphyxia, appreciate the cost of telling
underselling everyone and of the jest compelling
air, compared in diamond ��s hollow
an elbow locked, a neck, a chock, a vehicle of retribution
where attribution lies asunder, wonder wrought to lessen
of the lesson thought in thunder
thou art nothing
thou art nothing
and of the nothing, then, begin again
that we might rise, a-knowing
and tell of shadow under bridges
in the trusses of our bridges
in the rust upon our bridges
a broadest jape of undertow
curled out upon the edges
