Once Upon A Poem

once upon a time there was a poem
that just hung out in the back of the mind
insistent, incomplete, malevolent
sinister plottings and malcontent
looming, looping variations
unsatisfactory
in the wee hours
kittens set upon it, stripping
chewing, frolicking in grammatic dangles
until only kittens remained
smug, licking their chops
a proper spot of verse
