The Winning Game
November 11, 2020
the migraine is winning
the sonnet is winning
the cats are sinning and calling it win
the coffee is brewing
while here I sit stewing
trying to focus the words from within
the dog ��s surely winning
farting and spinning
catching their tail and raising a din
when winning is ruckus
(don ��t cuss at the ruckus)
I ��ll sit here to ponder where all might fit in
the coffee is beeping
now boiled and keeping
its lid on the migraine in black caffeine grin
the words become steady
I wasn ��t quite ready
for doggerel rhyming to sonnet-ear ��s tin
and the cats are still sinning
of course they ��re still sinning
I ��ve a purr on each shoulder with all the claws in
sonnet now spinning
uncomfortably spinning
but I ��ve a purr on each shoulder �� I ��m claiming the win
