the difficulty with immortals is the expectation of blood and splendor
old legends of devouring foes, cutting swaths through armies
leaving messages on short stakes, that terror might spread
annulment as nine tenths of the law, and land-binding all
forgotten now, the nine posts a day; happy messages inviting gaiety
lost to the cost of a call one town away, rolled into the treasure of everyone
just a breath away �� tea by ship, by route, by empire �� and in hand
brewing friendships across a thousand defunct nations
you look to them and say, ��How good are you at killing? ��
and they at you, ��This year the local honey is very good, perhaps a spoon with butter? ��
those bored to murder fade away, or are shuffled into quiet chambers
and the rest of us get on with baking, making pretty things, and hosting
