for every permutation another crest is cast
for every coronation another crown comes crested
for every answer to the memory another town erased
for every town a family too similar to taste
and in the petals of the night we found the hollow
a tender elbow in the earth gone soft
and there we dug and there we found the monster
stole its heart and with it made good sup
for every king and queen who claimed to master
for every mason building in the dirt
for every nation ��s greatness won in tyranny
a pistol and a stageman to the coup
and in the anchor where we ��d laid our resting
a silence in the waiting builds disdain
four thousand states and stateless wanderings
pressed close, the blossom simply reeks
for every statesman strong behind their power
for every minion, master, slave, and cursed
for every dreaming pause in valence
the symbol and the bagman spread the croup
and when the monster rose on thorn and bramble
saying peace might well parlay the bitter route
you claimed you tyrants right, and thus your virtue
crushed nails to your bosom and swelled the blight
for wait, by generation we are taking
for right, by penetration we are making
for weight, by constant, constant pressure
similar to me, similar to thee, or perish
and in the petals of the night we found the hollow
where long before we ��d dug into the berm
a barrow then, and resting, waiting, pacing
that your children harvest us and learn
