I dreamed we went to war, you and I
that when we got there, the field was stone
barren of twig and tender leaf, but piled deep
deepest thick with burning things and sticks
where for warmth we held each other, but having come for
well, what ��s a fissure to one ��s skin, a drink of the wick
that whets the fallow in �� so we let the fallow in
just enough to blend, powder of crystal and mica skinned
shiny, fitting chitin wind, where we ��d come to war, you and I
muttering about the shambles of stone, polished bone
warm in the friction of missing �� and missing, well
when one ��s a fissure in one ��s skin, the other �� they ��re other
what we ��d carve for torches, one for each hand and no holding
trundling monster things, alternately matched and released
hatched and appeased, warm for the molding
and a field full to breaking
clay, every clay thing, kilned
altered, expected
for we came to war, you and I
waking with you, alone, I dreamed I ��d come from war
that beyond my shuttered slumber the crumbled remains migrated
murmurs of swallows at the barn blending gentle, implacable
sweep of wing and furrow merged, faithful stipulated other
every tone a metallic creel, sound heating metal
pouring to cradled hand, pouring to cradled heart
pouring to cradled hearth, altar to other self
I dreamed we went to war, you and I
that when we got there, stripped of knowing
we went to war you and I
