Tank (A challenge poem for Jerry Kearns)

the whole goddamn time I have to listen to that ticking in my heart
continuity ��s drift in swing time, Vader ��s impervious Sith stolen breath upon breath
fur fingers and apostatic ablation misplaced, muffling everything
a cellular falling of snow kept clock in unchanging rhythm
two, click �� and two and a little more
and two, click �� and two and a little more
penetrating cadency just that much off tempo from sixty in any given second
and a little more where the legions had been
B and T killers �� classical formage pussing up, then medicated away
breath upon significant breath, that there might be some finality
as when I was six and learned my first magic
that I might trap your breath in wax and shut you up
frog-pause you so the heart kept right on ��
well son, ignorance is this
the magic doesn ��t work without belief, and belief ��s like drowning in piss
better to be silent than showing too bone-stupid to shift
scuff out the marks and remember darkness
stiff, impervious
�� beating
but only where it won ��t present, so begin at the heart
work your way in, and when the kid ��s cored, say it ��s raining
look up, sisters, swan, bear, and bone
turkey drowned in stars
learn everything
when I can ��t flinch, my heart flinches for me
beloved ancestors now sky, and one in the making
I ��m rendered silent by the time it takes
the tick, in my heart, of the taking
