Metrics and Salt

when you are going to war you do not tell your closest friends
you merely tune to water and stone across the sea and are gone
oh �� old soldiers and young relate orders, but war and war are separate things
how in the midst of battle the war is not surrounding you
just flashes and pointing and ending and tactical objectivity
how without that separation you are either lucky or dead
and with it you are neither lucky nor positively alive
moving, acquiring, ending
and you tell no one that war isn ��t pride in kills, or superior things
but the troubled thunder in your heart where that tactic and distance is monstrous
how you never return from having been
you ��ve simply been, are being, and the reticule snaps into place so easily
sense of space fogging in, place knowing volume, volume whiting out all
worship in ashes, finest particulate filing in
shapes within call and response one plays, reaching out and sending
message, conspire, attrition
when you are war you do not tell your closest friends
and like the scent of liquor recognize, on others, this most private thing
and evaluate, on will of iron, each other ��s will �� and prey of iron ��s old
how not to start one ��s articulate dance, domino motion
how not to articulate one ��s iron will, lest in so willing iron glistens
little sharp lights to attract attention
choose, require, listen
when you go to war, you do not tell your closest friends
where going implies return, as though the abyss might soon cease notice
and the empty at your back might plug in passive
but the words are these �� focus void, and void focuses
draw upon the empty, and the empty never stutters
and you simply do, or do not, and every moment chose
therein, iron will �� unpolished that it catch no reflection
swell of sea all around
