Don't Believe
March 21, 2004
it all begins with I don't believe
but I do and carry that ember in me
and the belief is subtle, outside the hate
beyond compassionate night and faith
where belief is irrelevant and that believed
is either is or not as may be
cluttered about the under-mind
patterns exchange positions maker's
one before and one come after each inside the me
remember lost was innocence confounded thus
robust but winding from the spindle
unhanging each darned pattern closer to the meat
like stripping before your mirrored soul
all began with I don't believe resolved in I don't know
but make it so, become beloved of all the world
little friend of self and fire huddled in the funeral
all endings made beginnings knowing then
and knowing coming
thus displays the center furrow
scattered though its markers be
each star coal seed another real
another made from me
begin again there is no repeating
innocence neither made nor broken
belief to know and to know relief
from entropy and burden
it all begins with I don't believe
casaulity and happen made me all the one and sheltered center
never lost in careless meter matching perfect to the furrow
each home burrowed under last and centered arrow clusters
and down the weaver strikes her spindle and up the patter makes her
where I began with don't believe and made of meat my pasture
each troubled step light leavened here
no position yet untaken clearly to the mender
once more then vent thy quitted world
it all begins with I don't believe
and it all begins in separation
instant - and salvation
