death walks among you and you do not flinch
but not because you know of death
like eyeliner to accentuate
her breath permeates all rooms
bringing to life a backlight cast
shadow puppets each of us and marked as thus
that those of ours so touched won't tremble
nor stutter in their swagger
instead to take a curse at death
in retrospect to love not her touch
but sanctify the dagger
death then walks within you, an apostasies burden
triggered subtle to the math personifying certain
and not because you know of death
do you trample all things subtle
devalue all your beauty to the scalpel and the blush
when all about and all within the starlight tears us open
and she looks out through both my eyes
and both of yours, bespoken
death walks among you with my name
given to her freely
that my syllable my ease her pain
and mine, so stem the terminus
but know you not the living breath
and know you not the dying
this the walking waking path
from flower's bloom to broken dust
beauty of an afternoon and of ashes in the even
death walks among you and you do not flinch
but not because you know of death
nor of life know the simplest breathing pattern
repent then, or not, be it as you will
and gorged upon your fill kip over
patient, silent I'll watch until the ashes call my certain
and perhaps my peace is thus, is thus
a flinch to death and from her touch
a life of ashen beauty burst, feathered
my name upon her curtain
watch then and know it thus, both you and I are of her
but my eyes are left for her careful glance
yours for counting, filling filling
adding to your burden
