and when the kitten had begun
to seek motherless, alone, contrition
one's ears shielded, civility demanding
no memory of mewks, nor appropriate consolation
front toes prickling on to rest, rear claws
strung into the demon's nest, undoing
all hunger ever after
and light, spry at the stem, ears re-opened
one's coming to the catling is of joy - having excised
not loss, but cost, again cavorting
