Bones, Old Bones
June 11, 2000
when I laid their bones upon the pyre
they would not burn
aluminum in powder, spent iron
I watched the star begin
welding in the autumn twilight
and still their bones remained
a shadow's ripple upon inferno
a shadow's rippling inferno
and still their bones remained
when I laid myself across their bones
and could not burn
a hatred to the mixture, graded
six thousand selves of flame
spent across withering bladelight
glade alien within that gaze
shadows of my enemy's bones
shadows become my enemy's bones
names quiet, remains
when Thiel the sparrow sparked his wing
he burned
but within the glassen ashes
a pyramid of skeleton
offering void, unforgotten
oh my enemy are these your patterns?
becoming me in my pride
becoming, me? in my pride?
how clever you grow.
oh my enemy, how I am divided
and cannot burn
shielded in my anger, a stranger ��s face wearing my mask
another's humaniform, and walking my path
these autumn woods a charity to me,
where I'd hoped to consume wrath's bones
upon your back, my enemy
ancient and dishonored
upon your back
who's woods are these round the cooking circle
I could not burn?
who's enemy am I that I cannot resume
throwing my heart at your bones?
who's sparrow is this, aquiver
speared in the pinion and sundered
in a quiet glade of hatred
quiet in the glade of hatred
recrimination and blackened bone
who's child is this upon the ashes
burned?
who's bones upon the vale laid
hated still, so strong they stayed
