The Call Again
June 11, 2000
come quietly the night is calling
whispering at the doors of man
and man aware of it not
does hide in his shelter
and call hollow of the night
and dark, and fill it with his horror
what, to again reclaim the night
man and his neon cruciform
spreading wings of jesus against the night
some reclamation, amidst the horns and engines
where salvation was a paper bag and a bottle
cardboard box and a beggar's sorrow
and man knew it not
come, quiet, lee, and hollow
but loud came man, and gamboling
across the fields of the damned
and knew it not
come quiet, lee, and hollow
but the cuneiform denied it, rot
sledging like the mare-hound, hot about the withers
caught amidst the towers
and digital forgot
come, quietly
anywhere this sound is not
