Broken at the Ending
May 31, 2000
there will be parts of your life to forget
enough that memory becomes you
there will be clotted floaters that remain
enough that version is partial
there will be paralysis
enough that motion regains some hold
inertial within the mass you've molded
enough that forgotten you're body enfolded
there will be times when you find christ
enough of those and one will be blessed
called forward to the altar of the purist and cleansed
enough that very little you remember remains
pain holds solid somehow, glimpses of joy and hallowed tome
enough of a book to hold you, kindle the old year's spirit
hollow in the lee of the new you
enough that the old was like the new
but the new is somehow keener
enough that the word called you
sharpened your fathomless hunger, gave it an edge
enough to see from outside in, this obsidian speck of a soul
four edges and a knife as markers, making from within
enough that one word could make more of you as martyr
close your eyes, open your veins, open your purity too
enough of that gets in with the pain
enough of that gets in with the pain
something's feeding on you
enough of it someone you knew, very like you
huddled in you're heart's cold chamber
enough, and void of life
passages within and though
enough like faces you once spoke to
you cannot remember
enough of the empty
break the bottle, let in
enough of you
sometimes even the pain and lonely
enough to drown the enemy
drown you
enough, and even the pain is through
broken at the ending
