Lace
March 24, 2000
when your son put lace over your bones
even his children called him brutal
you were of more supple thread than its pale splendor
tormented skin mocking his efforts and so heavy hands
torn here - and here - even the slightest starch an absent agony
young fool, dying fool upon the pinnacle
spinning, "I am so beautiful!" laughing
young fool doesn't know when to quit, spectacle of fashion
their eyes must be older somehow, to hurt so, embarrassed
perhaps you laugh - eyes always let on
