Cat's Trust
September 2, 1997
cat trusts dew
astounded at betrayal --
tail lashing dawn's casting
upon grass refractured --
again a rain resplendent
distortion in contorted gesture --
how now, that dew grows bolder
making pictures new in luster
here then deigns rest new creature
composed of naught but defraction
a breath -- new act's attention
disregarding panic
whiskers tremble
ears casting the silence for --
reason, or answers
who's paw marks territory thus --
cat trusts dew
but this -- unnatured portrayal
is different, thus -- a paw within a paw
to mark a do not enter
cat trusts
but knows the barrier
a nature that draws in riddles
leaves no room for --
cat's trusts
