You Know Who I Am
July 7, 1998
you know who I am
from dawn until dusk I will hold your hand
why fear the light
you know who I am
against the shadows your spirit casts
I will build a wall
an insect skin of hematite
shiny where the works began
before your dawn
and in the shadow normal filled
inside the deepening twilight cairn
a trail clear and plain will run
who will can, who will begin
you know who I am
in your ruins fearless I wend a strand
a thread to hold your damage in
a stranger's gaze to focus on
an insect's skin to lean upon
shiny where the works began
you know who I am
when the stanchions and fortresses shift to sand
there we recant and repent the pain
mortality and light to claim
to die and become the night again
you know who I am
