let me tell you of the vein that bumps angry on his forehead
how its blue swells and wanes like a mad tide coming
once, and once, and once, and once - listen, you can hear it
brushstroke on ricepaper come alive, hiss, stroke, and more
serpentining its frenetic track - bang bang - a beating sure
to myself as closed hands fall, here on my arms, I think
where the marks won't show, once, and once, and once, and once
I might reach out and touch it, tap, one finger holding pressure
grind that mad thing into the dust of his head, dead snake
just blend it out with the trade white powder from my neck
where he won't touch me, with sweet words or kind murmerings
some blind worm's power that won't stop, take me here damn you
I'm bought and sold, but the rise and fall is unending
once, and once, and once, and more, how I know this serpent
from growing into comprehension of that which makes me marketable
and how some of them hope you'll scream when they come clean-
because the pulse is in time to the serpent's tracks
for the ones like this one, sweat and dust mapping out his face
he'll not even sample this taste of knowing, one side or the other
still once, and once, and once, like this - bang - and more
