Often I see people comparing their situation with the worst possible situation in order to convince themselves they're fine and not change. This is usually the case with addictions.
"I don't drink much because I only drink 2 beers a day, I know people that drink 5!"
"I'm not a social media addict because I only spend 3 hours a day, others spend 8!"
It might be an exaggeration, but usually this type of mentality is an impediment towards self-improvement and is, in other words, just being comfortable. Instead of working towards ourselves, it's better to laugh at others that are more unfortunate and brag about ourselves, it's easier. Easier than to accept that we have an issue.
Nonetheless, saying we're "just fine" while comparing ourselves with the worst-case scenarios doesn't help, because most likely there's always someone that's in a worse situation than us, and we become complacent.
